Whenever I'm asked to submit a biographical sketch, I'm often tempted to offer one sentence only; "I love to paint". When I consider my experience as an artist, I think about, the exciting and challenging commissions that I've been given over the years. I think about, all of the interesting people that I've had the opportunity to meet. I think how, fortunate I am to have a career doing what I love to do, PAINT!

Born in Berks County, Pennsylvania in 1942, Julia Buchak grew up in a family who enjoyed music, art & people. She earned her B.F.A. attending Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas in 1965. As commission work placed more demands on her, she retired from teaching in the public schools in 1981 to devote full time to her painting. In 1987 she was given a one-woman exhibition at the Historical Society of Berks County, celebrating the opening of their new Gallery Facilities. In 1990 she began to design and illustrate the Harleysville National Corporation Calendars. She has illustrated several books, including The Revolutionary War Years, Blessed is the Meadow for Indian Creek Foundation and The Traveller’s Guide to Cape Breton, (Nova Scotia). In 1998 she. was invited to do a solo exhibit for the University College of Cape Breton in Canada. Her work with Local and National Charities has attracted public attention in recognition of her talent. She has been given several awards for her work and her charitable service to local communities. In November 2000 she was given the Exceptional Women's Award for Outstanding "Achievement in the field of Arts" by the YWCA.

Julie maintains two studios, one in Barto, PA and the other in Port Hood, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She is a landscape artist, illustrator and is consistent and comfortable working in water color, oil and acrylic. Her line of prints and paintings may be seen in numerous local galleries including Chadds Ford, Jennifer Gallery in Gettysburg and Cab Frye Restaurant and gift Barn in Palm.
